Marv Poulson, Fine Art Photographer to teaching Canyon Country Autumn Color Digital Photography Workshop November 2-4, 2007.

This popular workshop begins November 2 and concludes on November 4 in spectacular Zion National Park.  There is nothing like the colors of Autumn in Zion Canyon!  The strong colors of the towing cliffs and canyon walls work wondrously with the intense tones of colorful leaves on the trees or floating in desert springs or in the beautiful Virgin River.

Located in the Southwest corner of Utah, Zion Canyon opens north of the cozy town of Springdale.  A variety of accommodations and full service restaurants are available in town.  Workshop days will be filled with spectacular scenery at a time of year when nature enhances the vividly colored canyon walls with bright Autumn tones.

Marv Poulson will join 150 national artists, September 15 through 16 in Old Mill Park in picturesque Mill Valley, California for the 51st annual Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival.  Marv will unveil 15 new images in his Natural Surrealism series for the Bay Area art scene.  This will be Marv's first showing in this prestigious fine art event with such an expansive new collection.

Marv Poulson receives 3^rd Place Cash Award in 2007 Nature Photography Competition and Exhibition.

The Monte L. Bean Life Science Museum at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah hosted their tenth annual Nature Photography Competition and  Exhibition where more than 200 images were accepted for exhibition in six nature categories: Landscape, Animal Wildlife, Nature, Man & Nature, Sunrises & Sunsets, Water.  Marv Poulson received the third place cash award in the Water Category for his contemplative image 'Inversion III'.

The Business of Art Center will open the Annual Rocky Mountain Regional Photography Exhibition, fine art exhibition on -- April 28, 2006 with a reception at 7:00pm.  The prestigious Rocky Mountain Regional Photography Exhibition is juried by David Hiser. 

Mr. Hiser has been a photojournalist and photo educator for over 30 years. In addition to his work appearing in more than 100 National Geographic publications, he has photographed for many other magazines including Audubon, Fortune, Geo, Outside, and Smithsonian. David is a research associate at Digital Arts Aspen and is active in the stock photography industry. He enjoys teaching and has led over 50 workshops and seminars throughout North America, including Anderson Ranch and Coupeville Arts Center.

The intention of this exhibition, presented by the Business of Art Center (BAC) and the Circle of Confusion Photography Group is to recognize and promote fine art photographers of the Rocky Mountain Region.

New Exhibition Opening of Fine Art Photographer, Marv Poulson's Work in the 2006 President’s Art Show at the Museum of Utah Art & History (MUAH) January 23, 2006 to February 1, 2006

Salt Lake Community College sponsors this exhibition of contemporary fine art at Museum located at 125 South Main Street, Salt Lake City.  A Gala opening by Collage President, Cynthia Bioteau, to honor the artists.

More than 500 entries challenged the jury with many outstanding pieces.  Marv will show both of the pieces he entered.  Marv describes his image Reflective Way I as, Gentle light on a calm morning creates nearly perfect reflections in a still pool of lower West Fork in Oak Creek Canyon, Arizona, suggesting a natural way into the surreal reflection.  And his second image in the exhibition, Reflection V II as,  Autumn sky reflects in the collected pools after days of downpour in sculpted slick rock pockets combining sky and sandstone in surreal reflections in The Wave of the Vermillion Cliffs Wilderness.  Both images are archival prints on 100% cotton-fiber, acid-free, smooth fine art paper, and matted using archival materials and framed in natural, solid cherry with museum Glass for heirloom quality.

Fine Art Photographer, Marv Poulson to be featured in the Tempe, Arizona Arts Festival

The festival is scheduled for December 2, 3, & 4, 2005 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM all three days.  Marv will be showing recent works of natural patterns and related natural subjects all with his distinctive gentle style of depicting nature as nature.  Fine archival color prints will be available matted using archival matte and frames of solid natural cherry.  Marv will be showing three different sized works ranging in price from $100 to $990. 

As at all showings of Marv's work, he will be available to share his experience and techniques with patrons and customers.

The Tempe Arts Festival will be presented on Mill Avenue and surrounding streets north of the Arizona State University campus in Tempe, Arizona.

Photographer Marv Poulson creates fine art photographs of natural images and presents his work periodically in recognized Art Festivals, national and regional juried competitions, and one-man shows.

Fine Art Photographer, Marv Poulson to be featured in the Sedona Arts Festival

The festival is scheduled for October 8 & 9, 2005 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM both days.  Marv will be showing recent works of natural patterns and related natural subjects all with his distinctive gentle style of depicting nature as nature.  Fine archival color prints will be available matted using archival matte and frames of solid natural cherry.  Marv will be showing three different sized works ranging in price from $100 to $1,490. 

As at all showings of Marv's work, he will be available to share his experience and techniques with patrons and customers.

The Sedona Arts Festival will be presented on the grounds of Sedona Red Rock High School on Upper Red Rock Loop, Sedona Arizona.

Photographer Marv Poulson creates fine art photographs of natural images and presents his work periodically in recognized Art Festivals, national and regional juried competitions, and one-man shows.

Fine Art Photographer, Marv Poulson Receives Award of Artistic Excellence in San Antonio, Texas, National Juried Art Exhibition

The San Antonio Regional Artist Consortium (RAC) has awarded 'Confluence V I', by fine art photographer, Marv Poulson, their Award of Artistic Excellence in the National Juried Art Exhibition July and August, 2005 at the San Antonio International Airport and and The Consortium's Gallery in San Antonio, Texas.  Juried by Charles Field, artist and Professor Emeritus in painting at the University of Texas San Antonio.  Rarely are two images selected from a single artist, but Marv Poulson presented two exceptional landscape abstracts meriting duel presentation.  Following the Airport Exhibition, the RAC plans an extended showing in the newly opened RAC Gallery in San Antonio.

The Cambridge Art Association will open the 8th Annual National Prize Show, fine art exhibition on May 5, 2003 with a reception scheduled for May 12, at 7:00pm in the Kathryn Schultz Gallery.  The prestigious National Prize Show is juried by Joseph Thomas, Director, Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (Mass MoCA).

'Passages' a One-Man Fine Art Photography Show Opening for Marv Poulson on January 21, 2005

The Exhibition will occupy the large wall spaces in the Main Floor Chapman Library Gallery in Salt Lake City, Utah Until April 1, 2005.  Link to the Library Currently Running Events.

Marv works in natural light, engaging the emotions evoked by the natural realm, especially the mystery or magical essence of light-play in the world, using 35MM and 4x5 color transparency film scanned at high resolution, and high resolution digital cameras to match the natural image for direct color printing. Using archival pigment printing techniques and materials, Marv creates luminous prints with full color and tonal depth on acid free, cotton fiber paper to create a finished print that is as faithful to the natural image as possible and of heirloom quality. Finishing each print includes 8 ply museum mat and oiled natural cherry framing.

This one-man exhibition will continue from January 21, 2005 to April 1, 2005 with a reception for the artist from 4-5:30pm on the opening day.

Marv describes his approach to his art in this way: “Photography provides an expressive channel that transcends language in fulfilling a core need to share what I see as a blend with my reaction in creating natural images. I strive to engage the emotions evoked by the natural realm, especially the mystery or magical essence of light-play in the world. My pictures emerge through imagination and experience with the interaction between light and subject supported by a keen interest in natural history.”

The advent of digital print making enables a level of control, longevity, and quality long exclusive to black and white darkroom prints, in accordance with his membership in and adherence to NAIA (National Association of Independent Artists) standards. “I find digital giclée color prints increasingly satisfying with truly archival quality, luminescence, accurate color quality, and full tonal depth all allowing image making faithful to the natural image. Fulfilling my goal of sharing the results of photographic imagery remains my 30 year passion with fine, archival quality, natural-color prints”, Marv says.

Photography Workshops Announced

Imagedancer announces two new photography workshops for 2004. 

Color in Canyonlands Photography Workshop
Photographer Marv Poulson will lead a photography workshop in the heart of the Colorado Plateau canyon country June 4-6, 2004.  This informative workshop opportunity with feature explorations of the mystery and magic of the colorful canyons and formations of Arches and Canyonlands National Parks.  This region attracts the eye of any photographer with a multiplicity of astonishingly beautiful land forms, and colorful texture and form studies.  Expect a concentrated creative photographic experience.

Canyon Country Autumn Color Photography Workshop
The second photography workshop is scheduled for November 5-7, 2004 and will offer creative opportunities to photograph Autumn in Zion National Park which will be our center for this 3 day refreshing vacation-style photography workshop.  The spectacular deep canyon, high red-rock cliffs and stunning Autumn color offer a perfect photographic setting for creative and memorable picture making.
